The Board of Aldermen shall elect a City Clerk who shall hold office at the pleasure of the Board of Aldermen and until his/her successor is appointed and qualified.

A. 
The City Clerk shall, in addition to other duties which are or may be required of him/her by this Code or other ordinances, complete the following duties:
1. 
Attend all meetings of the Board of Aldermen and keep a journal of the proceedings of the Board of Aldermen, including the minutes of all meetings.
2. 
Safely and properly keep all the records and papers belonging to the City which may be entrusted to his/her care.
3. 
Administer all official oaths required by State law or City ordinance to be performed by the City Clerk.
4. 
Keep and maintain a record of all ordinances, resolutions and the Code of Ordinances.
5. 
Completing all reports and publishing the same in a newspaper as required by law.
6. 
In coordination with the Mayor and City Administrator, prepare and submit to the Board of Aldermen an agenda for each regular and special board meeting.
7. 
Sign and seal, if necessary, all official documents, including all warrants, orders, ordinances, resolutions or certifications of the City of Smithville.

The Board of Aldermen shall elect an Assistant City Clerk who shall hold office at the pleasure of the Board of Aldermen and until his/her successor is elected and qualified.

In the absence of the City Clerk, the Assistant City Clerk shall perform and exercise all of the duties and powers enumerated in the City ordinances for the City Clerk, including but not limited to those enumerated in Section 105.100. The Assistant City Clerk shall have no authority to act when the City Clerk is present at City Hall.
