Creation, Composition, Qualification In Terms Of Office. There is hereby created an Economic Development Committee for the City of Smithville, Missouri. The Economic Development Committee shall have seven (7) members, which shall consist of at least one (1) and not more than two (2) members from the Board of Aldermen, and the remainder shall be citizen members. All Economic Development Committee members shall have been residents of, business owners or managers in, or real estate developers within, the City for at least one (1) year immediately prior to their appointment and shall hold office for a period of three (3) years or until their successors are appointed.
Appointment, Compensation, Organization And Vacancies.
All appointments to the Economic Development Committee shall be made by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen as required by State law. Each member shall serve until his/her successor is duly appointed and qualified and shall receive no compensation. Within fifteen (15) days after appointment of members, there shall be an organizational meeting of the Board at which time the members shall elect from among their number a President and such other officers as may be necessary to serve for the ensuing year and until the election and qualification of their respective successors. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as regular appointments, and any person so appointed shall serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
The Economic Development Committee shall make and adopt such bylaws, rules and regulations for its guidance and for its governance as may be expedient, not inconsistent with the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri or City ordinance.
A member may be removed upon receipt of a resignation in written form or missing three (3) consecutive (unapproved) meetings.
Duties Of The Board. Subject to approval of the Board of Aldermen, the Economic Development Committee shall consider and recommend to the Board of Aldermen policies and actions related to recruitment, retention and development of Smithville businesses as well as marketing and promotion of the Smithville community.
