A. 
There be and hereby is established in the Village of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, a volunteer ambulance corps which shall be known in perpetuity as "Dr. Charles A. Knox Memorial Volunteer Ambulance Corps of the Village of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey," and which may also be recognized as and trade as the "Ridgefield Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps."
B. 
The Corps shall be considered as a separate division of the Village government and is hereby assigned to the Department of Public Safety. The Corps, upon appropriate resolution of the Board of Commissioners, may be assigned under the supervision of another Commissioner.
This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Ambulance Corps Ordinance of Ridgefield Park"; and unless otherwise expressly stated, the following terms, for the purpose of this chapter, shall have the meanings herein indicated:
COMMISSIONER
The Director of the Department as designated by the Board of Commissioners of the Village of Ridgefield Park.
CORPS
The Dr. Charles A. Knox Memorial Volunteer Ambulance Corps of the Village of Ridgefield Park.
VILLAGE
The Village of Ridgefield Park.

A. 
The Corps is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, including, for such purpose, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
B. 
It shall be the function of the Corps to render routine ambulance and emergency medical services when called upon, in accordance with the bylaws and standard operating procedures established by the Corps.

A. 
With the approval of the Commissioner, the membership shall promulgate and may from time to time amend and supplement the bylaws and standard operating procedures, which shall provide for the administration and operation of the Corps, and shall provide for the duties and rules of conduct of the members thereof, and shall contain such other matters as are necessary for the proper functioning of the Corps.
B. 
Changes to the bylaws will be approved by a majority vote of the voting membership at a general business meeting.

A. 
All apparatus and equipment of the Corps shall be and remain the property of the Village of Ridgefield Park, and the costs of operation, maintenance, repair and replacement shall be provided for in the Village budget.
B. 
The apparatus and equipment assigned to the Corps shall be used only for the purposes for which the Corps is established, or as authorized by the chief of operations.
C. 
The membership of the Corps shall be responsible for the care and operation of the apparatus and equipment entrusted to them by the Village of Ridgefield Park and shall observe all Corps standard operating procedures regarding such operation and care.
D. 
No one but a member of the Corps or a member of a Village emergency services unit duly licensed to operate a motor vehicle shall operate any of the ambulance apparatus of the Village.

A. 
The Board of Commissioners may, by resolution, fix the compensation, if any, to be paid to members of the Corps to cover any losses that any and each of them may incur in performing their duties as members of the Corps.
B. 
The officers of the Corps shall annually, and not later than December 31 of each year, submit to the Commissioner a detailed estimate of the funds required for the maintenance and operation of the Corps for the next calendar year.

Upon the dissolution of the organization, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal code, or shall be distributed to the federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose. Any such assets not disposed of shall be disposed of by a court of competent jurisdiction in the county in which the principal office of the organization is then located, exclusively for such purposes or to such organization or organizations, as said court shall determine, which are organized and operated exclusively for such purposes.
