A.ย 
There shall be a fitting on the main house drain, just inside of the foundation of each building, for testing purposes, except when the main trap is located inside of the cellar; in such case, the test fitting shall be next to the main trap on the house side. After the test has been applied as required and has been approved by the Plumbing Inspector, the opening of the test fitting shall be hermetically sealed by inserting a solid plug with a caulked lead joint.

All traps shall be provided with cleanouts or hand holes on the side of the trap nearest the fixture and shall be protected by the water seal of trap.
A.ย 
A water test shall be applied to the horizontal and vertical lines of drains and left exposed to view in all its parts until after the test has been approved by the Inspector.

The test shall be under a head of water at least six feet above all parts of the work to be tested, including all joints and connections.
Openings in drainpipes shall be stopped for testing by a proper expansion plug, screw cap or plug. The use of plaster of paris or any similar substance for this purpose is prohibited.
No fixture shall be connected with a drainage system or any part thereof which requires testing under these rules until the test has been applied and approved by the Plumbing Inspector.
Defective materials and drainage work poorly constructed and unworkmanlike in manner or which does not conform to these rules and regulations shall be removed by the master plumber when condemned by the Plumbing Inspector. No cement, wax, grease, paraffin, plaster, sal ammoniac, sand or other improper substance shall be used about any part of the drainage system, and the presence of any foreign substance about a joint or any part of a drainage system shall be sufficient cause for condemning such joint or part of said system. Any split fitting, hub, defective material and material not as specified in these rules and regulations, which shall have been condemned by the Inspector, shall be removed from the work and not used again.
