Editor's Note: This ordinance also provided: "This ordinance
is effective 45 days after the ordinance is adopted unless a petition
signed by not less than 10% of the registered electors of the Village
is filed with the Village Clerk within the forty-five-day period,
in which case the ordinance takes effect upon approval at an election
held on the question."
The intent of this article is to provide for the nomination
("nomination") and appointment ("appointment") of a Village Treasurer
as allowed under MCLA § 62.1(3).
The Village President shall nominate a person for the position
of Village Treasurer under the provisions herein. The Village President
may establish and use a committee approved by the Village Council
to assist in the nomination. The Village President shall, in setting
the nomination, analyze the statutory duties of the Village Treasurer
as set forth at MCLA §§ 64.9 through 64.12.
The Village Council, by a majority vote, shall take action on
the nomination. The Village President may provide alternative nominees
until the Village Council makes the appointment.
The term of the appointment shall be three years from the effective
date of the appointment. The Village Council shall set the annual
salary of the Village Treasurer.
