As soon as possible after the completion of each examination,
the Secretary of the Board shall prepare an eligible list upon which
shall appear the name of each applicant who received a passing grade
in the examination. The names on the eligible list shall be arranged,
from the highest to the lowest, in the order of the final weighted
score received by each eligible. Applicants who qualify for veterans'
preference points shall have those points added to their passing score
prior to being ranked on the eligibility list. The eligible list shall
be filed in the office of the City Manager and a copy posted on the
bulletin board in the Municipal Building. The eligible list shall
also indicate the date of its preparation.
When two or more eligible applicants shall receive the same
final weighted score, the order in which the names of such persons
shall appear on the eligible list shall be determined by their respective
scores on that part of the examination assigned the greatest weight.
In the event that two or more qualifying applicants also receive identical
scores on that part of the examination assigned the greatest weight,
the order of listing shall be determined by the order in which the
applications were numbered for recording purposes.
The eligible list shall be effective for one year from the date
of its preparation, unless extended by the Board for up to one additional
year. The Board may, however, void an eligible list at any time after
six months from the date of its preparation or at any time there are
fewer than three names remaining on the eligible list.
Whenever the City Council shall determine the need for a reduction
in the number of civil service employees in a department, the Board
shall prepare and maintain a list of the names of all furloughed employees,
together with the position held by each employee at the time of furlough.
The names on the furlough list shall be arranged in priority order
based on the length of service of each furloughed employee.
