[Adopted as Ch. 17, Art V, of the 1973 Code]
A New Jersey licensed professional engineer shall be appointed as Borough Engineer for such term as is provided by the statutes of the State of New Jersey.
It shall be the duty of the Borough Engineer to:
A. 
Provide all staff engineering required with the assistance of such consultants as may from time to time be authorized.
B. 
Attend all meetings of the Mayor and Borough Council and its subordinate committees and furnish engineering advice as and when required.
C. 
Prepare, maintain and preserve all maps and records of roads, utilities, public buildings, structures and public lands, including school facilities, under or operated by the municipality and its subordinate agencies.
D. 
Deliver to the Borough Clerk all property of the Borough in his possession or under his custody or control upon his retirement from office. All maps, plans and specifications of the Borough, which shall be prepared at the direction of the Mayor and Council, shall be considered the property of the Borough and shall be maintained at the Borough offices.
E. 
Prepare, review and approve specifications for public works contracts, supervise and inspect the execution of such contracts, certify satisfactory completion of the work in order to authorize progress payments pursuant to the contract and certify final completion in order that said work may be accepted by the Mayor and Council.
F. 
Examine and report upon preliminary and final subdivision plats for conformity with the Municipal Subdivision Ordinance and other land use requirements and advise the Planning Board with respect to engineering problems relating to sewer, water, paving, curbing, streets, drainage and other matters.[1]

G. 
Provide for inspection and approval of all proper installations made in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Board prior to the acceptance of any utilities or of any street improvement or the release of security as provided in the Municipal Land Use Law (N.J.S.A. 40:55D-1 et seq.) of the State of New Jersey.

H. 
Prepare from year to year and maintain additions to the Tax Maps of the Borough pursuant to and in accordance with the requirements of the laws of the State of New Jersey and note all subdivisions of property thereon.
I. 
Advise the Mayor and Council of all projects on which financial aid is available to the Borough from county, state or federal funds.
J. 
Perform all other duties and services which may be required of him by the Mayor and Council from time to time.
Any maps, plans, specifications, estimates or papers which he shall make at the direction of the Mayor and Council shall be considered the property of the Borough, and, upon his retirement from office, such Borough Engineer shall deliver to his successor in office or, if none has been appointed or qualified, then to the Borough Clerk all property of the Borough in his possession, custody or control.
It shall be the duty of the Borough Engineer to:
A. 
Supervise all labor required for street, sidewalk, park and other Borough work at such times as this labor is required and is engaged by the Mayor and Council.
B. 
Follow up and advise the Mayor and Council of all projects which may be available to the Borough of Somerdale from county, state or federal funds.
C. 
Ensure that all projects are properly and satisfactorily completed.
D. 
Cooperate with the Construction Code Officials and inspectors of the Borough of Somerdale to enforce compliance with the Zoning Ordinance of the Borough of Somerdale[1] and cooperate with the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment of the Borough of Somerdale in preparing plans for future development and growth of said Borough.

E. 
Maintain all valuable records, maps, etc., in an orderly, efficient manner and maintain accurate property monuments which are vital in the establishment of title and deeds of property owners.
F. 
Plan for the proper development of the sewer and street system as well as other facilities consistent with the addition of public services throughout the Borough of Somerdale.
G. 
Provide the governing body with accurate estimates and information as to costs of all projects authorized by it for improvements.
