Effective with the municipal election of 1987, no person shall enter upon the duties of constable until the Town has secured for that person a bond with surety payable to the Town on a form approved by the Town attorney. Said bond shall be filed with the Town Clerk in a penal sum recommended by the finance Director and approved by the Council. Said bond shall be conditioned upon the faithful performance of the constable's official duties. The failure of any person elected as constable to qualify for such bond within 30 days after the time for the commencement of the constable's term of office shall render the office vacant and the vacancy shall be filled in the manner provided in Connecticut General Statutes, Section 9-220, as it may be amended.
