This chapter is adopted under the authority granted by §§ 31.18, 31.32, 31.38, 59.70(8) and (20), 66.0103, 87.30, 92.07, 281.31, and 281.35, Wis. Stats., and amendments thereto.
The jurisdiction of this chapter shall include all dams and related dam property owned by Adams County, Wisconsin.
The purpose of this chapter is to promote the public heath, prosperity, safety and general welfare of Adams County, Wisconsin, by protecting County-owned dams and related property from the multiple results of human-caused damage to the dams' integrity and structure.
For the purpose of this chapter, all words, unless specifically defined in this chapter, shall be presumed to have their customary dictionary definitions.
Nothing in this chapter shall prevent the County from seeking other remedies, including but not limited to civil litigation and criminal prosecution, for damages to the property covered by this chapter.
A. 
The following activities are prohibited on or from dams unless otherwise authorized in writing by the Adams County Land and Water Conservation Department:
(1) 
Swimming or diving.
(2) 
Boat launching.
(3) 
Boat mooring.
(4) 
Boating of any kind.
B. 
The following activities are prohibited within 100 feet of dam structures unless otherwise authorized by Adams County:
(1) 
Waterskiing.
(2) 
Jet skiing.
The following activities are prohibited unless otherwise authorized in writing by the Adams County Land and Water Conservation Department:
A. 
Installation of any structure on the dam or related property, including but not limited to piers, boat mooring or boat storage devices.
B. 
Driving any vehicle onto the dam or related property, except on 15th Avenue on Arrowhead Dam, on 11th Drive over Easton Dam, and on Kings Way on Upper Camelot Dam.
C. 
Parking any vehicle on the dam or related property.
D. 
Climbing, walking or otherwise trespassing on dam water flow control structures.
E. 
Removing any item from the dam or dam property, including but not limited to rocks and soil.
The County shall post signs outlining the prohibited activities that are visible from the land and from the water. The County may also install other devices, such as protective guardrails or gates, to serve as notice of prohibited areas.
A. 
The County may enforce any violations of this chapter, or may designate enforcement of the provisions to another government agency.
B. 
Violations of any provisions of this chapter shall subject the perpetrator to a forfeiture of up to $500, plus appropriate costs and penalties pursuant to § 814.63, Wis. Stats.
