The purpose of this article is to establish a policy to address the installation and maintenance of non-standard, supplemental/discretionary signs within the right-of-way on Town highways and to define who will pay for the signs, posts, installation and maintenance of each sign.
A highway work permit shall be issued in accordance to Article XII of this chapter for any nonstandard, supplemental/discretionary sign installed within the right-of-way on Town highways.
A. 
No person shall install or maintain a sign within the right-of-way on Town highways except in accordance with the provisions of this article.
B. 
Exemption(s).
(1) 
The Town recognizes that there are signs that were installed within the rights-of-way on Town highways which are inconsistent with the standards herein. Such signs were lawfully created prior to the adoption of this chapter. Therefore, such signs are declared to be legally nonconforming signs in order to continue and undergo routine maintenance for safety purposes.
The installation and maintenance of any sign within the right-of-way on Town highways shall conform to the same standards and/or guidelines that have been adopted by the Yates County Highway Department.
