A. 
Chapter 280 of the Laws of 1986[1] defined "school grounds" as including any building, athletic playing field, playground or land within the real property boundary line of an elementary, parochial, intermediate, junior high, vocational or high school together with the area within 1,000 feet of said real property line.

B. 
The Town Board of the Town of Alden recognizes the grave threat posed to the youth of the Town of Alden by the actual or threatened illegal sale of controlled substances to the children of the Town of Alden.
C. 
The Town Board of the Town of Alden supports the efforts of the Erie County Sheriff's Department to eradicate the sale of controlled substances and illegal drugs on school grounds.
D. 
This resolution has been discussed and has received full support of both the Alden Town Board and the Alden Central School Boards.
E. 
The Town Board of the Town of Alden declares its opposition to the illegal sale of any controlled substance on or near school grounds and supports severe penalties for such acts.
The Town of Alden declares that there shall be a drug-free school zone around each school within the Town of Alden as defined in Chapter 280 of the Laws of 1986, which zone shall consist of an area within the real property boundary of all schools within the Town of Alden together with 1,000 feet beyond said real property boundary.
The Superintendent of Highways is authorized to purchase and place such signs as necessary and appropriate to delineate the drug-free school zones within the Town of Alden.
