All County volunteers, with the exception of those who are subject to exclusion under PERA rules, are eligible to join the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico (PERA).
A. 
Otero County recognizes the value of professional development and personal growth for individuals and encourages all volunteers to pursue education and training to better themselves and their career/job opportunities.
B. 
Note: Prior approval is required before signing up for any conferences, seminars or college-related courses that the volunteer expects to be paid for/reimbursed by the County. Payment to attend approved job-related courses may include the following:
(1) 
Registration fee;
(2) 
Tuition;
(3) 
Per diem;
(4) 
Mileage if use of personal vehicle is approved.
C. 
If the volunteer desires to attend a workshop, seminar or course that is not approved, the volunteer shall be responsible for all his/her expenses related to the training.
