The Zoning Officer, pursuant to the N.J.S.A. 40:55D-1 et seq., shall have the following duties:
A. 
Enforce provisions of the local zoning ordinance;
B. 
Inspect properties in the municipality for violations;
C. 
If informed of a violation, issue orders to the owners of the property to cease and desist from such violations;
D. 
If property owners do not cease and desist after being told to do so by the Zoning Officer, file a complaint in the Municipal Court for violation of the ordinance.
E. 
Work closely with the Municipal Attorney to determine whether an action ought to be sought in the Superior Court;
F. 
Applications for zoning permits are made to the Zoning Officer. The Zoning Officer has the exclusive authority to issue such permits within 10 days.
G. 
If the Zoning Officer refuses an application, he/she must specify what sections of the ordinance are involved and what variances would be required before a zoning permit could be issued.
H. 
The Zoning Officer is authorized to issue nonconforming use and structure certifications pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:55D-68.
I. 
Under Township Code, the Zoning Officer is responsible for issuing permits, certificates or authorizations in accordance with the provisions of Municipal Land Use Law, N.J.S.A. 40:55D-18; and/or
J. 
All other duties assigned by the Township Committee.
The Deputy Zoning Officer, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:55D-1 et seq., shall have the following duties:

In the absence of the Zoning Officer and/or all the duties of the Zoning Officer.[1]
