The Town of Woodbury hereby adopts the provisions of C.G.S. § 7-163a, regarding municipal liability for ice and snow on public sidewalks, as amended.
No person shall obstruct or render unsafe or inconvenient for public travel, in whole or in part, any sidewalk within the Town of Woodbury.
The owner, tenant, occupant, or any person having the care of any land or building adjoining any sidewalk within the Town of Woodbury shall, after the cessation of any storm of snow, ice or sleet within 12 hours, cause the same to be removed from so much of such sidewalk as shall be paved, concreted or cemented, and if the same cannot be wholly removed, shall distribute sand or some other proper substance thereon so that such sidewalk shall be and remain safe for travel until such time as the same can be wholly removed. All debris and other obstructions shall be removed from any sidewalk within one hour of placement thereon.
Upon any violation of §§ 210-1 through 210-3, the First Selectman shall authorize an agent of the Town of Woodbury to leave with the owner, tenant, occupant or any person having the care or charge of any such land or building a written notice that the responsible person has incurred the penalty prescribed by § 210-5 and will also incur a further obligation to pay for the removal of ice, snow, sleet, debris or other obstruction if not completed within four hours of the notice.
[Amended 5-21-2018]
Except as otherwise provided in this article, every person, corporation or other entity who or which shall violate any provisions of §§ 210-1 through 210-3 shall be fined not more than $25 for each day such offense continues. Said fine shall be paid in person or by mail to the Town of Woodbury.
