[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Meeting of the Town of Suffield 8-19-1976 (Ch. 7 of the 1987 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]

There is hereby established for the Town, pursuant to General Statutes Title 28, an Emergency Management Office. Such office shall consist of a Director, appointed by the First Selectman with the approval of the Board of Selectmen, as hereinafter more particularly set forth, and an Advisory Council of six members.
A. 
Composition; terms; vacancies. The Advisory Council shall consist of the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Ambulance Director, First Selectman and two resident electors of the Town who shall serve for terms of four years and until their successors have been duly appointed and qualified. Any vacancy in the Advisory Council shall be filled for the unexpired portion of the term by appointment by the First Selectman, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.

B. 
Organization; meetings; annual report. The members of the Advisory Council shall choose by ballot a Chairperson, a Vice Chairperson, and a Secretary from among its members. The Council shall keep records of its meetings and activities and shall make an annual report to the Town in the manner required of other boards, commissions and agencies of the Town.
C. 
Compensation of members. The members of the Advisory Council shall serve without compensation, but the necessary expenses of the Advisory Council shall be paid by the Town, to the extent that they are not paid by the state or federal government.

A. 
Appointment; term; vacancy. The Emergency Management Director shall be appointed by the First Selectman with the approval of the Board of Selectmen and shall serve for a term of four years and until his successor has been duly appointed and qualified. Any vacancy in the directorship shall be filled for the unexpired portion of the term by appointment of the First Selectman, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
B. 
Compensation. The Emergency Management Director shall receive such compensation for the performance of his duties as may be determined in the same manner as compensation for members of the Board of Selectmen is determined.
The powers and duties of the Advisory Council and the Director shall be those set forth as to them in Title 28 of the General Statutes, as the same may be amended from time to time. Subject to the provisions of the statutes, the Director shall be responsible to the First Selectman.
