Each member of the Police Department shall at all times be prepared
to act immediately on notice that the member's services are required.
Police officers will be required when off duty to comply with the
laws of the State of New York as set forth in the officer's duties
as a police officer. In addition to the duties herein set forth, police
officers shall perform any duties and fulfill any assignments as directed
by the Chief of Police or superior officer.
Each member of the Department shall be punctual in attendance
and prompt in obedience to orders.
Each member of the Department will appear for duty in proper
uniform, prepared both physically and mentally to perform police duties
as set forth in the rules and regulations of the Department and other
laws of the State of New York.
At no time shall members of the Department congregate during
their tour of duty at police headquarters, except in the performance
of the police function.
When a prisoner has been arrested and charged with an offense,
said charge shall not be withdrawn or reduced by any member of the
Department without the consent and approval of the Chief of Police.
No member of the Police Department, other than the Chief of
Police, shall take up with an official of the City any matter relating
to departmental policy or generally to the policemen themselves, without
prior notification of the Chief of Police.
Any officer coming into possession of information relating to
the Department and/or its function will be held responsible to report
same at the earliest opportunity to the officer's commanding officer
so that the ends of justice will be quickly obtained.
Members shall obtain permission from the Chief of Police before
having duplicates made of a departmental key or before lending or
furnishing to any person not employed as a member of the Department
any keys relating to the Police Department.
A member of the Department shall treat as confidential the official
business of the Police Department. Police officers shall not talk
for publication nor be interviewed nor make speeches nor shall be
impart information relating to the official business of the Department
to anyone except under the due process of law and as directed and
with permission of the Chief of Police.
Each officer shall enforce all laws in a fair and impartial
manner. When an arrest is made by a police officer, the officer shall
supply all services as required by the laws of the State of New York
as it relates to the security of the prisoner, medical treatment to
the prisoner, facilities for a phone call for notification of relatives
and an attorney.
All officers shall report to their commanding officer any injury
or property damage sustained by an individual. Said report shall be
submitted in writing to the commanding officer.
