When an extension of the City Water distribution system is required to serve any customer or development, such customer or developer shall make written application to the Utilities Department thereof. Such application shall be accompanied by Department of Natural Resources approved drawings and plans, locations of existing mains, proposed locations of water meters, and the point of connection to the existing system.

All plans submitted shall be drawn to the current addition of the Kansas City Metropolitan Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) standard specifications and design criteria as provided on file in the Office of the City Clerk, Public Works Department and Community Development Department.

All water main extension shall be inspected and tested per the APWA testing requirements. All inspections shall be performed by the Director of Public Works or his/her representative.

The minimum pipe size shall be eight (8) inches for all water main extensions.

No person shall extend any water pipe or main from one property or street number to another without written permission from the City.

Upon approval of the application as required by this Article, the applicant is authorized to commence installation of said water main extension. All costs associated with the installation and replacement of any street, right-of-way, curb, sidewalk, alley, etc., shall be the burden of the applicant.
