This article is adopted under the authority granted by § 101.12, Wis. Stats.
The purpose of this article is to promote the general health, safety and welfare by enforcing the adopted Wisconsin Administrative Code provisions.

The following Wisconsin Administrative Codes, their referenced chapters and standards, and subsequent revisions, are adopted for municipal enforcement by the Building Inspector, who shall be certified as a Commercial Building Inspector by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services in delegated agent municipalities.
A. 
Chs. SPS 361 to 365, Wisconsin Commercial Building Code.
B. 
Chs. SPS 375 to 379, Existing Building Codes.
The Building Inspector authorized by the municipality to enforce the adopted codes shall be properly certified by the Department of Safety and Professional Services.
No person shall build or cause to be built any new public building containing less than 5,000 square feet in total area or alter a public building involving less than 10,000 square feet in altered area, without first submitting plans and specifications to the Building Inspector and obtaining a building permit for such building.[1]

A local building permit shall also be required for larger commercial buildings which will be state-reviewed but locally inspected.
Building permit fees shall be as set forth in § 17-23.

Enforcement of this article shall be by means of withholding of building permits, imposition of forfeitures and injunctive action. Any person who shall violate any provision of this article shall be subject to a penalty as provided in Chapter 17, Article III, General Penalty, of this Code.
