This article shall be known and cited as Town of Amenia Local Law No. 1 of 2020 entitled "A Local Law to Change Grievance Day for Assessment."
This article was adopted pursuant to authority contained in § 512 of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York.
The Town of Amenia presently employs an Assessor who is at the same time employed by another jurisdiction's assessing unit. Grievance Day for the other jurisdiction assessing unit is the first Wednesday following the fourth Tuesday in May. Grievance Day for the Town of Amenia was established by local law pursuant to § 512(1-a) of the Real Property Tax Law as the first Thursday following the fourth Tuesday in May. The Town of Amenia is now seeking to restore Grievance Day to the fourth Tuesday in May as established by § 512(1) of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York.
The Town of Amenia hereby adopts as the date for the meetings of the Board of Assessment Review (also known as "Grievance Day") as the first fourth Tuesday of May and so many days thereafter as the Board of Assessment Review deems necessary to hear complaints in relation to assessments in the Town of Amenia.
