Editor's Note: Malden was constituted a body politic and corporate by the name of "The Inhabitants of the Town of Malden" by order of the County Court of Dunklin County entered on April 22, 1878. Pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Town, an election was held within the Town on March 19, 1889, at which a majority of those voting ratified an ordinance to make the Town a City of the Fourth Class; and the first Mayor, Marshal and Aldermen were elected on the first Tuesday in April, 1889. At a special election held within the City on October 4, 1960, a majority of those who voted ratified an ordinance to make Malden a City of the Third Class, and the Mayor issued a proclamation declaring the result of the election, and since that time Malden has been, and now is, a City of the Third Class, by virtue of RSMo., §§ 72.030, 72.070, 72.140, inclusive; see Ord. No. 1908, which is on file in the City Clerk's office.
