The National Electrical Code, 2020 Edition, published by the International Code Council, be and is hereby adopted as the Electrical Code of the City of Malden, Missouri.

All electrical installations and the electric wiring of all buildings and places in the City shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code adopted by Section 515.010, and all installations, temporary meters, and wiring of buildings and apparatus in connection therewith which is not in conformity with such National Electrical Code shall be corrected within ten (10) days from the notice of such defective wiring given by the Building Official.

The Building Official shall supervise the putting in of all electric wiring, connections and apparatus in or on any building or public street in this City. The Building Official is hereby designated as the officer to enforce the provisions of this Chapter, and for such purposes he shall supervise and inspect all buildings, wiring and apparatus, and shall cause all persons who violate the provisions of this Chapter to be prosecuted.

Before any person shall install or make additions to or changes in any electrical installation, equipment, work meter, apparatus, or wiring, he/she shall obtain from the Building Official a permit to do so. Each such permit shall become invalid after a period of thirty (30) days, at which time it must be returned, whether work is completed or not, but may be extended at the discretion of the Building Official for additional periods, as long as needed. Upon each return of a permit, work shall be inspected by the Building Official.

The Building Official shall prepare such rules and regulations as may be necessary to implement the provisions of the National Electrical Code adopted by Section 515.010, and a schedule of fees to be charged for permits and inspections. Such rules, regulations and schedule of fees, when approved by the Mayor and City Council and placed on file in the office of the City Clerk, shall have the force and effect of an ordinance.

A. 
No person, firm, corporation or entity shall use a false or fraudulent name in order to obtain electricity from the Board of Public Works of Malden, Missouri.
B. 
Any person, firm, corporation or entity who violates this Section shall be subject to a fine of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) and not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) or be imprisoned in City Jail for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days, or by both fine and imprisonment.
