Every person engaged in the business of supplying natural gas, for compensation for any purpose, in the City shall pay monthly to the City, as a license tax, a sum equal to five percent (5%) of the gross receipts of such person from such business for the preceding calendar month, excluding municipal and industrial service.

It is hereby made the duty of every person engaged in the business described in Section 615.010 to file with the City License Officer, on the 1st day of February of every year, a sworn statement of the gross receipts of such person from such business for the preceding calendar year, with municipal and industrial services listed separately. The City License Officer or his duly authorized deputy is hereby authorized to investigate the correctness and accuracy of the statement required and for that purpose shall have access at all reasonable times to the books, documents, papers and records of any person making such statement in order to ascertain the accuracy thereof.

No such sworn statement shall be made public nor shall the information therein be used by the City or any officer or employee thereof, except for the purpose of fixing the amount of the tax.

The tax imposed by Section 615.010 shall be paid in twelve (12) equal monthly payments, each payment in an amount equal to one-twelfth (1/12) of the total tax which is imposed. One (1) such payment shall be due on the 10th day of each month.

The tax imposed by Section 615.010 shall be in lieu of any other occupation tax required of any person engaged in the business described therein, but nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to exempt any such person from the payment to the City of the tax which the City levies upon the real or personal property belonging to any such person, nor shall the tax herein required exempt any such person from the payment of any other tax which may be lawfully required other than the occupation tax on the business described in Section 615.010.

Every person now or hereafter engaged in the business or furnishing exchange telephone service in the City shall pay the City as an annual license tax seven percent (7%) of the gross receipts derived from the furnishings of such service within such City, as hereinafter set forth.

All persons mentioned in Section 615.050 shall pay to the City on or before the 15th day of each month an amount equal to seven percent (7%) of the gross receipts received by such person for exchange telephone service in the City for the preceding month. At the time such amount is paid, a statement showing the gross receipts received by such person derived for furnishing exchange telephone service in the City shall also be filed with the City Clerk.

All persons mentioned in Section 615.050 shall file with the City Clerk annually on or before the 15th day of February a sworn statement of the gross receipts received by such person of such telephone service in the City for the preceding year.

The payments required by the provisions of this Chapter shall be in lieu of all other excises, charges, exactions, rentals, impositions or other license or occupation taxes heretofore imposed upon any person engaged in the business described in Section 615.050; but nothing herein contained shall be so construed to exempt such person from any general or special ad valorem tax imposed upon the public generally by the City.

The right is hereby granted to all persons licensed hereunder to trim trees, brush or hedges upon and overhanging the streets, alleys, sidewalks and public places of the City, so as to prevent such foliage from coming in contact with telephone wires and cables, all of such trimming to be done under the supervision and direction of the governing body of the City or any City Official to whom such duties have been or may be delegated.
