A. There
shall be the Rock Island Trail Committee which shall serve in an advisory
capacity to the Board of Aldermen. The Rock Island Trail Committee
shall consist of five (5) members who are residents of the City and
who shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the consent of the
Board of Aldermen. The Board of Aldermen shall select one (1) Alderman
as a liaison.
B. The
members shall serve for a term of two (2) years each, or until their
successors are appointed and qualified; provided, that the first incumbents
shall be appointed and hold office for staggered terms of two (2)
[three (3) of the five (5) positions], and one (1) [two (2) of the
five (5) positions] years, respectively. The members shall annually
elect from its membership a Chairperson and such other officers it
deems necessary. Members shall serve without compensation. Unless
as otherwise specifically authorized by the Board of Aldermen, the
Rock Island Trail Committee shall not have spending authority.
C. The
Mayor may, by and with the consent of the Board, remove any member
for good cause after providing notice and an opportunity to be heard.
Vacancies occasioned by removal, resignation or otherwise shall be
filled in like manner as original appointments, except that the term
of office is restricted to the unexpired term of office.
D. The
Rock Island Trail Committee shall work with Jackson County's Rock
Island Rail Corridor Authority on issues related to extending the
Rock Island Trail through the City, and such other issues that may
arise related to the Rock Island Trail as it affects the City.
