[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Barnegat 6-6-11 as Ord. No. 2011-09. Amendments noted where applicable.]
It is hereby established in the Township of Barnegat, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, an Adopt-A-Highway Program is to be done in conjunction with the New Jersey Adopt-A-Highway Program of the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The purpose of this program is to beautify the state and local highways that run through the Township of Barnegat, provide personal satisfaction to the participants, install civil pride and save taxpayer dollars.
Individuals, organizations and businesses can participate in the Adopt-A-Highway Program by agreeing to do any of the following:
A. 
Pick up roadside litter for two (2) years on the section of highway, minimum of four (4) times a year, or more, if desired.
B. 
Plant and establish small trees, shrubs and/or flowers on any signed section of highway and maintain them for two (2) years.
C. 
Provide lawn mowing services along the adopted section of highway for a minimum of two (2) years.
Participants in the Adopt-A-Highway Program must enter into an Adopt-A-Highway maintenance agreement with the Township of Barnegat. A copy of that agreement will be provided by the township.
The township will provide assistance and help to coordinate the work of the volunteers on the state and local highways within the Township of Barnegat.
The Township of Barnegat will provide participants with approved safety equipment, other necessary equipment and technical support, as well as recognition signs.
All participants must follow the rules and regulations that have been established by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Township of Barnegat.
