There is hereby established the East Brunswick Community Action Committee.
A. 
The Community Action Committee shall consist of nine voting members appointed as follows:
(1) 
The Mayor or his/her designee shall be the Chairperson of the Committee
(2) 
One Councilmember, selected by the Township Council, shall be the Vice Chairperson of the Committee
(3) 
Five members shall be appointed by the Mayor.
(4) 
Three additional members shall be appointed by the Township Council.
(5) 
There shall be one non-voting student member, appointed by the Mayor.
B. 
Members shall serve without compensation and each shall be a resident of the Township.
C. 
Terms of Office:
(1) 
The Mayor's term on the Committee shall be coterminous with the term of the Office of Mayor.
(2) 
The Term for the Township Council Representative shall be for one year, commencing January 1 of the year of appointment and ending on December 31 of the year of appointment
(3) 
The terms of the Mayor's appointees first appointed under this chapter shall be staggered with two appointees appointed for one year terms and two appointed for two year terms. Thereafter, a term of a regular member shall be for two years.
(4) 
The terms of the Council appointees first appointed under this chapter shall be staggered with one appointee appointed for a one year term and two appointed for two-year terms. Thereafter, the term of a regular member shall be for two-years.
D. 
A vacancy on the Board occurring other than by expiration of term shall be filled for the unexpired term by the Appointing Body.
The Community Action Committee shall:
A. 
Provide assistance to Township residents and other community groups in activities that will benefit the health and welfare of the community.
B. 
Assist Township Departments in the administration of charitable efforts such as food drives, clothing drives.
C. 
Coordinating volunteer efforts for Community Clean Up or other Community-oriented volunteer efforts.
D. 
Establish and maintain a list of volunteers and volunteer organizations that are willing to assist during times of need.
E. 
Formulate recommendation to the governing body concerning the development of activities and programs for residents of all ages.
F. 
Make such individual studies and reports as may be requested by the Mayor or Township Council.
