There is hereby created a Department of Public Works, the head
of which shall be the Director. The Director shall be responsible
for the overall supervision of the functions of the Department. There
shall also be a Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent if such
shall be authorized. The Superintendent shall be responsible for the
daily coordination of the various divisions of the Department. The
Superintendent shall approve all permits dealing with sewers, roads,
waste disposal, etc., that are authorized.

Within the Department of Public Works there shall be a Division
of Streets. The Division shall:
a. Maintain and repair the streets, roads, culverts and drainage of
the municipality and construct and reconstruct such streets as may
be authorized.
b. Clear and remove snow and ice from the streets and provide such services
as may be required in the interest of public safety as authorized.

Within the Department of Public Works there shall be a Division
of Sewers. The Division shall:
a. Maintain and operate the various sewage pumping facilities throughout
the Borough as authorized.
b. Maintain and clean the Borough's sanitary and storm sewers, lines
and mains as authorized.

Within the Department of Public Works there shall be a Division
of Central Maintenance. The Division shall:
a. Maintain and repair the vehicles of the Department and those of other
departments of the city as authorized by the Director, subject to
budgetary allowances.
b. Maintain other motorized equipment.
c. Install, repair and maintain traffic signals, signs and electrical
equipment.

Within the Department of Public Works there shall be a Division
of Sanitation. The Division shall:
a. Collect and dispose of all refuse, trash, etc., authorized to be
collected from the Borough.
b. Supervise animal disposal activities.

Within the Department of Public Works there shall be a Division
of Building and Grounds. The Division shall:
a. Provide, maintain and repair playgrounds, playfields and indoor and
outdoor recreational facilities as authorized.
b. Cultivate, plant and maintain all public parks, rights-of-way and
property, including removal and protection of plant and tree life
as authorized.
c. Operate, maintain and provide janitorial services for Borough-owned
buildings as authorized.

The Shade Tree Commission created by Ordinance No. 86, July
5, 1956, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:64-1 et seq., is continued and assigned
for administrative purposes to the Division of Building and Grounds
in the Department of Public Works.
