A primary election and a general election shall be held every year. The City Commission shall by ordinance divide the city into four wards as nearly equal as possible, based upon both population and area, and a Commissioner shall be elected from each ward, such Commissioners being a resident of such ward for which he is elected, but shall be voted upon and elected at large.
Each ward shall be given a number, commencing with the one located in the northeast quadrant of the city, and numbered in a clock-wise direction.
The terms of the Mayor and Commissioners shall be three years each and the terms of the Mayor and Commissioners shall commence immediately after the conclusion of the last regular scheduled Commission meeting in December following their election.

Any qualified candidate shall have his or her name placed on the ballot for the primary election as a candidate for Mayor or Commissioner by filing a sworn declaration of candidacy with the County Election Board during the filing period set by resolution of the Commission. The filing period shall conform as nearly as practical to state law and shall not begin less than 15 days from the date the resolution is submitted to the County Election Board and end not less than 45 days from the date of the primary election.

A primary election shall be held every year on the Tuesday in September set by state law for special elections. In the event the runoff primary election for the nomination for office of any political party as provided in state law is repealed, a primary election shall be held on the Tuesday of the month set by state law for the primary election for the nomination of political party candidates in even numbered years and on the Tuesday of the corresponding month in odd numbered years set by state law for special elections. In the event the date of the runoff primary election for the nomination for office of any political party as provided in state law is changed, the primary election shall be held on the Tuesday of the month set by state law for the runoff primary election for the nomination of political party candidates in even numbered years and on the Tuesday of the corresponding month in odd numbered years set by state law for special elections.

A general election shall be held each year on the Tuesday in November set by state law for special elections.

If there are no candidates for Mayor or Commissioner to be voted upon, and no questions to be voted upon, at a primary election or a general election, then the election shall not be held.

Only electors residing within the defined city limits of this city who have the qualifications prescribed for electors by the state constitution and law, and who are registered as may be required by law, may vote in city elections.

Officers and employees of the city may attend and express their views at city council meetings, or any other public meeting.
Officers and employees of the city may actively participate in partisan and nonpartisan political activities provided the political activity in which the employee participates shall only be exercised during off-duty hours and while not in uniform. No employee of the City of Weatherford may file as a candidate for municipal public office while still employed by the City of Weatherford.

Except as herein provided by this Charter, all elections for municipal officers in the City of Weatherford shall be held and conducted as provided by the Statutes of the State of Oklahoma.
