[Adopted 9-25-1986 as part of Ord. No. 51-86 (Ch. 25, Art. LXIV, of the 1974 Code)]
There is hereby created the position of Senior Mechanic in the Public Works Department of the Township of Lacey.
The Senior Mechanic shall have the following duties:
A. 
Perform the service and repair of engines and components, power trains, suspension systems and other mechanical units of various types of motorized equipment.
B. 
Perform the repair of major systems such as diesel engines, transmissions or hydraulic systems.
C. 
Supervise one or more employees engaged in performing varied mechanical work involving the repair, maintenance and servicing of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment.
D. 
Perform such other work as directed by the Director/Superintendent of Public Works.
To be appointed to the position of Senior Mechanic, an individual must meet the following requirements:
A. 
Possess 3 1/2 years of varied experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment, such as bulldozers, cranes, road graders, power shovels or similar equipment.
B. 
Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
C. 
Possess considerable knowledge of a variety of automotive systems, components, accessories and parts of systems, such as wheel cylinders, fuel lines, condensers and mufflers; possess considerable knowledge of varied types of motors and equipment and their operation; and possess considerable knowledge of the procedures for diagnosing the reasons for motor failure and of the steps necessary to correct such failure.
D. 
Possess the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in the English language sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
E. 
Possess good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would prevent the individual from performing the duties of Senior Mechanic.
The annual salary for the position of Senior Mechanic shall be determined from time to time by the Township Committee and shall be paid in accordance with the terms and provisions of the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Lacey.[1]
