There is hereby created the position of Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector for the Township of Lacey, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:5-4.
The Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector shall work in conjunction with and under the direction of the Tax Collector. The Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector shall perform all duties and functions as directed by the Tax Collector and, in the absence of the Tax Collector, shall perform all of the duties of the office of Tax Collector.

The Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector shall be appointed by the Township Committee. A vacancy in the office of Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector, other than due to expiration of the term, shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term.
To be appointed to the position of Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector for the Township of Lacey, an individual must meet one of the following requirements:
A. 
Possession of a valid Tax Collector's certificate from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs;
B. 
Graduation from a four-year course at an accredited college or university; or
C. 
Four years of full-time experience in municipal tax collection, the collection and recording of municipal tax revenues or in preparing and maintaining or auditing records of municipal tax accounts.
The salary for the Deputy/Assistant Tax Collector shall be determined from time to time by the Township Committee and shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Lacey.[1]
