There is hereby created the position of Assistant Zoning Officer.

The Assistant Zoning Officer shall be appointed by the Township Committee.
The duties of the Assistant Zoning Officer shall be:
A. 
To assist the Zoning Officer to enforce the Zoning Ordinances of the Township of Lacey.[1]

B. 
To perform all of the duties of the Zoning Officer at his direction or in his absence.
C. 
To assist the Zoning Officer in examining working plans of proposed structures for compliance with state, county and local zoning laws.
D. 
To read and correct final plans.
E. 
To consult with architects, owners and contractors on compliance problems.
F. 
To conduct field inspections in order to ensure compliance with zoning regulations, applicable rules and initiate appropriate enforcement actions against violators.
G. 
To prepare and supervise the preparation of needed reports.
H. 
To assist in directing the establishment and maintenance of needed records and files.
A. 
To be appointed to the position of Assistant Zoning Officer, an individual shall possess the following:
(1) 
Two years' experience in the preparation and revision of building construction plans and specifications or in the full-time inspection and enforcement of zoning and/or building construction laws and regulations.
(2) 
Thorough knowledge of the provisions of the local Building Code and Zoning Ordinance.
(3) 
Effective means of obtaining and maintaining proper liaison between the municipal authorities and private contractors.
(4) 
Ability to analyze and interpret the local Zoning Ordinance and other local ordinances that apply to buildings.
(5) 
Ability to prepare clean, sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
(6) 
A valid New Jersey driver's license.
(7) 
Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
B. 
Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.
The annual salary for the position of Assistant Zoning Officer shall be determined from time to time by the Township Committee and shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Lacey.[1]
