There is hereby created the position of Senior Clerk Transcriber for the Township of Lacey.
The duties of the Senior Clerk Transcriber, under direction, shall include but not be limited to transcribing dictation from recording equipment containing confidential and detailed legal, medical and/or technical technology; typing stock letters, factual monthly reports, annual budget, as well as maintaining essential records and files, as required. The Senior Clerk Transcriber shall also perform such other related work as required.
To be appointed to the position of Senior Clerk Transcriber, an individual must meet the following requirements:
A. 
One year of experience in the transcription of dictation using recording equipment, or successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial science from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the experience indicated above. Course work must include typing skills, methods and procedures; other courses may include but not be limited to office procedures, word processing and business English.
B. 
Possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
C. 
Possess the knowledge of:
(1) 
Operation of recording devices and of the taking and transcribing of dictation using such equipment.
(2) 
Legal, medical and/or other specialized terminology.
(3) 
Ability to proofread typed copy.
(4) 
Ability to use good English, to spell correctly and to compose routine business letters.
(5) 
Ability to maintain records and files.
(6) 
Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, routines, machines and equipment.
D. 
Possess the ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
E. 
Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.
The salary for the Senior Clerk Transcriber shall be determined from time to time by the governing body and shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Lacey.[1]
