Village Law § 10-1010 is hereby amended, in its application to the Village of Southampton, so as to change the date of the annual meeting for the election of company officers from the first Tuesday in April to a date in December as hereinafter set forth and so as to provide for calendar year terms of office. Each of the companies whose members constitute the Fire Department of the Village of Southampton shall hold an annual meeting in December in each year, on the day in December on which such company holds its regular monthly meeting, which day shall be a day prior to the Thursday following the second Tuesday in December. At such annual meeting in December, company officers shall be elected pursuant to Village Law § 10-1010 for terms of office commencing on January 1 of the following year.
Village Law § 10-1012 is hereby amended, in its application to the Village of Southampton, so as to change the date of the nominations for Chief and Assistant Chiefs from the Thursday following the first Tuesday in April to the Thursday following the second Tuesday in December and so as to provide for calendar year terms of office. On the Thursday following the second Tuesday in December in each year, nominations for the Chief and Assistant Chiefs of the Fire Department of the Village of Southampton shall be made pursuant to Village Law § 10-1012 for terms of office commencing on January 1 of the following year.
Village Law § 10-1014 is hereby amended, in its application to the Village of Southampton, so as to change the date of the council meeting for choosing certain officers from the third Tuesday in April to the second Wednesday in January. On the second Wednesday in January in each year, the Council of the Fire Department of the Village of Southampton shall meet and choose certain officers pursuant to Village Law § 10-1014.
This Article shall become effective upon the filing thereof in the office of the Secretary of State of the State of New York. In order to implement the changes made by §§ 8-1 and 8-2 of this Article, the terms of office of the current company officers, Chief and Assistant Chiefs are hereby shortened by a period of about three months so as to expire on the December 31 preceding the date on which such terms would otherwise have expired. It is the intent of the foregoing that the terms of office which otherwise would have expired in April of 1997 shall expire on December 31, 1996, that company officers be elected in December of 1996 and that nominations for Chief and Assistant Chiefs be made in December of 1996.
