Building construction — See Ch. 29.
All houses, businesses and other principal buildings within the Town of Georgetown shall conspicuously display street identification numbers to assist emergency, postal and delivery vehicles to locate specific properties in the town.
It shall be the duty of each owner to provide for the display of such a number in such a manner that it is visible from the street.
In the event that the house, business or principal building is not visible from the street, the number shall be displayed on a post or mailbox in such a manner that it is visible from the street.
The numbers shall be at least three inches in height.
A. 
The number shall be those assigned to each structure in accordance with the street number listing for the Town of Georgetown.
B. 
If no number is assigned at present, the Police Chief will assign one.
C. 
The owner of any property seeking a building permit for a new building or structure shall apply for and receive a building number designated from the Police Department, or its designate, prior to submitting an application to the Building Inspector for a building permit, and no building permit shall be issued without description of such building number.
A. 
Upon notice of a violation, the Board of Selectmen or Chief of Police will notify the owner in writing at the earliest convenience of either of the officials.
B. 
An owner shall have 30 days to correct such violation.
If the owner fails to place the numbers in the manner required by this chapter within 30 days, the penalty shall be a ten-dollar fine for each day the numbers are not displayed. If no action is taken within the 30 days of the written notice, the fine shall be retroactive to the date of the written notice being issued.
It shall be the responsibility of each property owner in the town to obtain a number assigned to his affected structure or structures by January 1, 1991.
