The purpose of this chapter is to prohibit the hunting of game and discharge
of firearms in the Township of Wilkins thereby creating conditions promoting
the health, safety, morals and general welfare of the residents of the Township
of Wilkins.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
- AIR GUN
- Any gun which discharges metal missiles through a smooth barrel and derives its force from a spring which is set by a cocking device.
- FIREARM
- Any rifle, shotgun, carbine, revolver, pistol, bow and arrow, compound bow or crossbow or any other mechanism capable of firing a percussion cartridge and ejecting a projectile therefrom.
- PERSON
- Every natural person, corporation, partnership or association.
No person shall fire or discharge any firearm or air gun anywhere within
the Township of Wilkins.
The parent or legal guardian of any person within the jurisdiction of
the Juvenile Court of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, who knowingly permits
such child to violate the provisions of this chapter, shall, upon conviction,
be subject to the penalties herein provided.
It shall be the duty of the municipal police or the Ordinance Enforcement
Officer employed by the Township of Wilkins to enforce the provisions of this
chapter and to make information and arrests for violations thereof.
For each and every violation of the provisions of this chapter, any
person violating the same shall, upon summary conviction before any District
Justice of said township, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000
and costs of prosecution and, in default of the payment thereof, shall be
sentenced and committed to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 30 days.
