This article is hereby adopted by the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors pursuant to § 18.2-34.23 et seq. of the Code of Virginia to assist with fund-raising conducted by the volunteer fire departments and rescue squads.
The volunteer fire departments and rescue squads of Buchanan County, Virginia, are recognized as part of the County's public safety program.

In order for a volunteer fire department or rescue squad in Buchanan County to qualify for County funding, the organization shall:
A. 
Be duly chartered by the State Corporation Commission;
B. 
Possess a tax-exempt designation under Section 501(c)3 of the United States Tax Code on or before May 1, 1997; and
C. 
Submit to an audit of its books and records by an agent of Buchanan County, Virginia, upon request, regarding the expenditure of public funds and the use of publicly purchased supplies and equipment.
