Before an application for a permit is initiated, the applicant or his/her
contractor must contact Dig Safe and all other appropriate utilities and Town
agencies. Proof of that notification must be provided with the application
for a permit.
All contractors wishing to perform excavation work in public ways and
places within the Town (not including state-controlled areas) must be licensed
to do such work by the Department. Contractors seeking such licenses should
request application forms from the Engineering Division of the Department
of Public Works. The completed application, certified as to authenticity/validity,
shall then be filed with the Engineering Division together with the following
