Village-owned vehicles are only to be used by Village employees in the
performance of assigned duties for the Village. All vehicle operators must
have the appropriate license and operator training to drive the vehicle or
be under direct supervision if in training to qualify for a license. Vehicles
are not to be used for personal business. All vehicles should have logs that
record the driver's name, destinations and a brief reason for any trip
outside the Town of Rhinebeck limits. No passengers should be in a Village
vehicle other than Village employees or people with active business with the
Village. The operator of any vehicle will be responsible for reporting all
traffic violations and parking violations received and notifying the department
supervisor of any mechanical or operation difficulties. A repair log and a
fuel log will be maintained for each vehicle. All repairs or maintenance work
on vehicles will be done by the shop mechanic where possible. All contracted
repairs will require a completed work order with an estimate of costs. Vehicles
should not be left unattended with the engine running, nor should vehicles
with assigned garage space be left outside without just cause. All assigned
vehicles must be returned to the appropriate Village garage area when the
assigned operator is not available for on-call responsibilities. This would
include vacation time and any extended personal or sick time with anticipated
duration of two workdays or more.
