[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Rosendale 11-10-1992. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Because the Town of Rosendale is cognizant of the importance of the issue of appropriate liability protection regarding the use of personal automobiles used by some employees for Town activities and Town businesses, this policy is hereby in effect for Town of Rosendale public officials as set forth below.
A. 
All those employees or public officials whose official business requires the use of a personal automobile and whose use of said personal automobile is reimbursable at the mileage rate set forth annually by the Town Board at its annual meeting must meet the criteria set forth in this policy.
B. 
The personal automobile, when used in actual Town business, must be driven only by that Town of Rosendale employee or public official in order to be recognized as a Town of Rosendale activity and reimbursable expense.
C. 
The current list of positions that require Town employees or public officials as per the criteria set forth in this policy are:
(1) 
Building Inspector.
(2) 
Youth Director.
(3) 
Dog Control Officer.
D. 
There may be from time to time employees and public officials not listed herein and above who may be required to drive a personal auto for Town business and who, upon presentation of a voucher or claim for reimbursement, will be required to meet all of the criteria set forth in this policy.
E. 
The Town of Rosendale does not condone or authorize the use of personal vehicles by employees or public officials for the carrying of passengers who are not also Town of Rosendale employees or public officials.
F. 
This policy does not affect or pertain to employees or individuals who drive Town of Rosendale owned vehicles.
A. 
All employees and public officials driving personal vehicles, as specifically listed above, or prior to undertaking said activity and prior to presenting a claim for reimbursement for said activity, must place on file with the Town of Rosendale a copy of their current personal automobile insurance liability policy.
B. 
It is the responsibility of all those employees or public officials who are affected by this policy to maintain continuous and current personal automobile insurance liability with said responsibility also requiring that a copy of a current policy is always on file with the Town of Rosendale so as to cover, but not limited to, changes in carrier, changes in coverage, renewals, etc.
A. 
All employees or public officials who are affected by this policy shall place on file with the Town of Rosendale a current copy of their New York State motor vehicle license, including a copy of their current record of convictions.
B. 
All employees and public officials who are affected by this policy may be asked to sign a release form authorizing the Town of Rosendale to obtain a copy of their motor vehicle records through the appropriate agency.
