As used in this chapter, the following words
and phrases shall have the following meanings, unless the context
clearly indicates a different meaning.
A vehicle which is designed or intended to be used in providing
transportation of wounded, injured, sick, invalid or incapacitated
human beings or expectant mothers.
A trained individual who is certified by the State of New
Jersey Department of Health as an emergency medical technician.
This chapter is for the purpose of providing
adequate transportation for the sick and injured and promoting the
public health, safety, comfort and welfare of the citizens of the
Township and adjacent incorporated areas.
The Byram Township Volunteer Rescue Squad is
hereby created and established with jurisdictional boundaries coextensive
with the boundaries of the Township.
The Byram Township Volunteer Rescue Squad shall
be composed of one company to be known as the "Lakeland Emergency
Squad, Inc.," which will also service under separate agreement and
recognition the Township of Andover, the Borough of Andover and any
other municipality or entity it may choose.
No person shall hereafter become a member of
the Byram Township Volunteer Rescue Squad or any unit thereof unless
he or she can satisfy the qualification requirements as set forth
in the bylaws of the Lakeland Emergency Squad, Inc.
Upon completion of each ambulance run, the attendants
on duty shall complete a record form or its equivalent, as prescribed
by the laws of the State of New Jersey.
The ambulance, when in service, shall be equipped
with and carry at least the minimum equipment required by the laws
of the State of New Jersey and as governed by the New Jersey State
First Aid Counsel.
The ambulance service shall offer ambulance
service 24 hours per day every day of the year.
It shall be unlawful for any person to give,
or make cause to be made, a call for ambulance service without probable
cause or to neglect to obey any reasonable order of a driver or emergency
medical technician at an ambulance call or to interfere with the ambulance
service's discharge of its duties. Any person convicted of violating
any provision of this section shall be fined not less than $5 nor
more than $500 for each offense.
