Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act, the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be enforced locally in the Township of Byram.[1]

The local enforcing agency shall be the Township of Sparta pursuant to a shared services agreement, effective January 1, 2017, between the Township of Byram and the Township of Sparta, which is incorporated by reference herein. A copy of said agreement is on file in the municipal clerk's office.
The certified Fire Prevention Official shall enforce the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the Township of Byram, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings, and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.
The certified Fire Prevention Official shall carry out the periodic inspections of all life-hazard and non-life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.
Fees associated with fire protection and prevention are collected by the Township of Sparta as outlined in the shared services agreement referred to in § 133-2 above and in accordance with Sparta Ordinance Nos. 16-1.8 and 16-1.9.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act,[1] any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of the Sussex County Board of Appeals.

The certified Fire Prevention Official shall maintain all records of its activities on file in accordance with the shared services agreement referred to in § 133-2 above.
Violations and penalties shall be as prescribed by N.J.S.A. 52:27D-207 through 52:27D-211 and as set forth in the New Jersey Administrative Code pursuant to duly adopted regulations of the Department of Community Affairs.
