The performance of marriage and civil union ceremonies is not an obligation
of the position of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor, but rather the performance of
marriage and civil union ceremonies is completely within the discretion of
the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
If the Mayor or Deputy Mayor when authorized by the Mayor performs a
marriage or civil union ceremony, the fees shall be $25. The fees shall be
deposited in the current fund, and shall be payable to the Township of Middle.
The Mayor or Deputy Mayor when authorized by the Mayor shall perform
marriage and civil union ceremonies on a regularly scheduled day of the week,
between certain times, and at the Township Hall. The Mayor shall from time
to time provide the Clerk with the day of the week and the times at which
he or she shall be available to perform marriage or civil union ceremonies.
The Mayor or Deputy Mayor when authorized by the Mayor has the discretion
to perform a marriage and civil union ceremony other than on the regularly
scheduled day of the week, and other than at the regularly scheduled time,
and at locations other than in Township Hall.
The Mayor or Deputy Mayor is not to receive any additional compensation
for performing this service.
If the Mayor or Deputy Mayor when authorized by the Mayor does perform
a marriage or civil union ceremony other than on the regularly scheduled day
of the week, and other than at the regularly scheduled time, and at locations
other than in Township Hall, the Mayor or Deputy Mayor shall not be entitled
to reimbursement for any out-of-pocket expenses.
A.
The wedding ceremony performed by the Mayor or Deputy
Mayor when authorized by the Mayor shall be as follows:

We are gathered together in the presence of this company, to join together
these two persons in (marriage/a civil union), which is honorable, and is
not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly,
advisedly, and soberly. Into this estate these two persons present come now
to be joined. If any one can show just cause why they may not lawfully be
joined together let him or her now speak, or else hereafter forever hold your
peace.

For as much as (name of person) and (name of person) have consented
together to join in (marriage/civil union), and have witnessed the same before
these persons, and have given and pledged their faith, each to the other,
and have declared the same by joining of hands, therefore, by authority of
the laws of this state, I do pronounce them joined as one in (marriage/civil
union).

B.
If the persons to be joined in marriage or civil union
desire additional vows or statements, they must state such vows or statements
on their own without the guidance of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor.
