The purpose of this article is to benefit the public health, safety and welfare and to establish a requirement that the police communication system work throughout the Township, including inside of large buildings.
In any commercial building greater than 10,000 square feet there must be adequate Police Department communications throughout the building. Adequate communications shall be determined by the Police Chief or his or her designee and shall be solely within his or her discretion. If adequate communication is not available, the Construction Official shall not issue a certificate of occupancy or a temporary certificate of occupancy.
If it is determined that there is not adequate communications, the Police Department shall specify a solution to the situation, which can include a requirement that the owner/developer install an antenna, repeater, or other such equipment to provide communications within the building. The solution shall be designed by owner/developer to meet the specifications of the Township's consultant as it applies to the compatibility with the Township Police Department equipment. Any and all expenses, including design fees, shall be paid by the owner/developer. Only after such equipment is installed and adequate communications established shall the Construction Official issue a certificate of occupancy or a temporary certificate of occupancy.
