For purposes of this article, "false alarm" is defined as a call for police or fire services where there is no actual or perceived need for police or fire services and where the call for service is caused by a mechanical or electronic defect in the alarm system or the improper operation or use of the alarm system.
Pursuant to the Pennsylvania Borough Code,[1] all private residents and commercial establishments shall be permitted one false alarm call per year. The first offense after the first false alarm shall result in a $30 fine, after which the resident or commercial establishment shall be fined upon each subsequent violation. This article is being adopted in response to public safety concerns on the part of the Borough of Edgewood due to unusually high false alarm calls to the Police and Fire Departments. The fines shall be as follows:

The proper Borough officials are hereby authorized to levy said fines and to enforce said fines in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the ordinances of the Borough of Edgewood.
