Editor's Note: This local law provided that it shall take effect on January 2, 2010, subject to acceptance and filing by the Secretary of State.
The Fire Department of the Village is hereby authorized and permitted to go to the aid of another city, Village, town or fire district or territory outside the Village to aid in extinguishing a fire or fires therein, and while in the performance of their duties in extending such aid, the members of said Department shall have the same immunity and privileges as though performing the same within the Village, pursuant to § 209 of the General Municipal Law. The Chief or other head of the Fire Department, or of any company thereof, is authorized to extend such aid, in his discretion, in answer to a call for assistance from such village, town, fire district or other territory, provided always that sufficient apparatus and membership is kept in the Village for local protection at all times.
A. 
The Board of Trustees hereby further amends the service award program for volunteer members of the Amityville Fire Department as adopted by Local Law No. 12 of 1991 and duly approved by a majority of the electors of the Village of Amityville on November 5, 1991. Said service award program was duly amended by Local Law No. 1 of 2003 as duly approved by the a majority of the electors of the Village on November 4, 2003, and further amended by Local Law 7 of 2005, as duly approved by a majority of the electors of the Village on November 8, 2005, to provide an eligible active firefighter with up to 40 years of credited active firefighting service for a service award pursuant to GML § 217(n). All other terms and conditions of such program, as previously amended, shall remain in full force and effect.

Editor's Note: This local law passed at referendum 3-18-2015 and provided an effective date of 1-1-2017, as follows: "This local law shall be effective on January 1, 2017, upon the adoption of the following proposition by a majority of the electors of the Village of Amityville at the municipal election to be held on March 18, 2015, as provided in GML § 216: 'Shall Local Law No. 1 of year 2015, a local law adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Amityville, amending the defined benefit service award program for volunteer members of the Amityville Fire Department, to provide for the crediting of up to 40 years of active firefighting service, at an annual estimated cost of $20,000 which include the estimated annual administration fee, with a maximum projected monthly award of $800 per participant, and an estimated annual cost of $181.81 per participant, representing approximately a $0.075 per $100 assessed valuation increase in the real property taxes of the Village of Amityville, as authorized under § 216 of the General Municipal Law be approved?'"
B. 
The program shall consist of a defined benefit plan, with investment and administrative services to be provided by a plan administrator designated by the Board of Trustees.
C. 
The Mayor shall, on the advice of the Village Attorney, be authorized to execute a contract with said Plan Administrator on behalf of the Village of Amityville.
D. 
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Amityville is hereby designated as the Service Award Program Committee and is authorized to meet for the purpose of considering aspects of the award program which are, by law, obligations of the program sponsor, such Committee to be chaired by the Mayor.
