[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Council of the Township of Old Bridge by Ord. No. C-152 (Sec. 4-9 of the 1973 Revised General Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The purpose of this chapter is to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Township and to aid in the prevention of injury to life and of damage and destruction to property because of the existence of a water shortage emergency by giving to the Mayor such control over the use of water as may be necessary to prevent the existence or continuance of a shortage of water, and to invest the Township with all powers necessary or convenient to effectuate the saving of water during such an emergency.
The Mayor is empowered, from time to time, at his discretion, to determine whether there is an adequate amount of water in the municipal water supply system for the purpose of maintaining the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Township.
If the Mayor determines that an insufficient amount of water exists for that purpose, he shall declare an emergency and, at his discretion, may prohibit the use of water for sprinkling lawns, gardens, trees or shrubs, private swimming pools, washing of motor vehicles or any other such uses of water which may be deemed by him to be nonessential. Due notice of such prohibitions will be given to the Township residents.
