[Adopted 9-28-1977 as Ord. No. 1977:313 (Art. III of Ch. 72 of the 1967 Code)]
There is hereby created in the Police Department of the Borough of Closter the position of Deputy Chief of Police.
The Deputy Chief of Police shall rank immediately below the Chief of Police.
The duties of the Deputy Chief of Police shall be the following:
A. 
To assume the responsibilities of the Chief of Police when the Chief is not available, pursuant to Chapter 2:2.2 of the Police Rules and Regulations Manual for the Borough of Closter or when the position of Chief is vacant.[1]

B. 
To assume all of the duties described in Chapter 2:2.2 of the Police Rules and Regulations Manual for the Borough of Closter when the Chief is not available or when the position of Chief is vacant.[2]

C. 
To assist the Chief in running the Department and in carrying out the responsibilities of the Chief of Police.
D. 
To carry out any other duties assigned by the Chief of Police.
E. 
To maintain the personnel files of all of the men in the Department.
In order to perform his or her duties, the Deputy Chief of Police shall have access to all of the files and matters pertaining to police functions within the Borough of Closter.
The position of Deputy Chief of Police may, in the future, be abolished by borough ordinance if the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Closter determines that the need for this position no longer exists.
