GENERAL REFERENCES
Vehicles and traffic — See Ch. 211.
There is created a Traffic and Safety Planning Committee for the City of Beacon.

The Traffic and Safety Planning Committee shall consist of five members, as follows: two members to be appointed by the Mayor subject to City Council approval, one ex officio member to be the Chief of Police; one ex officio member to be the Superintendent of Streets; and one member to be a representative of the Planning Board of the City, such member to be designated by the Planning Board, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Planning Board.
The Committee is authorized to:
A. 
Promote and encourage street and highway traffic safety.
B. 
Formulate City-wide highway safety programs and coordinate efforts of interested parties and agencies engaged in traffic safety education.
C. 
Cooperate with local officials within the City in the formulation and execution of traffic safety programs and activities.
D. 
Study traffic conditions on streets and highways within the City, study and analyze reports of accidents and causes thereof and recommend to the appropriate legislative bodies, departments or commissions such changes in rules, orders, regulations and existing law as the Committee may deem advisable.
E. 
Conduct meetings within the City whenever and wherever the Committee shall deem it advisable and to invite to such meetings parties and agencies, public and private, interested in traffic regulation, control and safety education.
F. 
Promote safety education for drivers and pedestrians.
G. 
Obtain and assemble motor vehicle accident data and to analyze, study and consolidate such data for educational and informational purposes.
H. 
Coordinate and direct all local activities related to the implementation of the state highway safety program, as approved by the Mayor or his designee.
