Promotions from one rank or grade to the next
higher one may be made as vacancies occur. Except for promotion to
Chief and Deputy Chief, promotions shall be made in accordance with
the result of examinations as prescribed in the rules and regulations
relating to promotion. Promotion to Chief and Deputy Chief shall be
solely by appointment of the Township Manager, without requiring an
examination.
Assignment or reassignment to duty with any bureau or other detail in accordance with § 51-28 shall not constitute, in itself, a promotion.
