Burglary security — See Ch. 62.
Fire prevention — See Ch. 87.
When access to or within a property or structure or an area on that property is unduly difficult because of secured openings and where immediate access is necessary for lifesaving or fire-fighting purposes or when there is reasonable cause to believe a lifesaving or fire-fighting situation exists, the Fire Chief shall require a Knox Box or equivalent key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be a type approved by the Fire Chief.
The Fire Chief may promulgate rules and regulations to implement this chapter relating to key boxes. A schedule for compliance shall be established by such regulations, except that no permit for an alarm system pursuant to § 44-4 of the Code of the Town of West Hartford shall be issued without prior compliance with this chapter.
The Knox Box or equivalent key box shall contain:
A. 
Keys to locked points of ingress, whether on the interior or exterior of such property.
B. 
Keys to other areas as directed by the Fire Chief.
C. 
Hazardous materials information as defined in C.G.S. § 29-336, in accordance with regulations promulgated by the Fire Chief.
Keys to Knox Boxes or equivalent key boxes shall be held by authorized personnel of the Fire Department only.
