The Selectmen shall annually appoint a Town
Counsel, who shall be an attorney and counsellor at law and who shall
hold office for the term of one year from the first day of April until
his successor is appointed and qualified. He shall receive such compensation
as the Selectmen may determine, subject to the appropriation of the
Town therefor.
The Selectmen may engage the services of attorneys,
other than the appointed Town Counsel, to act as Counsel for the Town
or any of its departments in any particular matter as the Selectmen
may deem advisable, and they shall receive such compensation as the
Selectmen may determine, subject to the appropriation of the Town
therefor.
The Town Counsel shall act as legal advisor
and counsellor to the Town and all its departments.
